We all love a little wood-burning action in the colder months, but it can be a bit of a pain having to clean the glass after. One of the reasons you might not notice this is because the glass is usually behind a wooden frame. The wood burner glass sits behind the wood burner, so you can’t see it like you can a regular window, so it’s easy for grime to build up over time. This can make your log burner less efficient and make it look really dirty. It is easy to clean your wood burner glass though. But if you’re after a more thorough clean, then we have some other tips for you.
Polish up your wood burner:
Most people are very happy with their wood burner glass, but over time it can become a little tarnished. We have a solution that will polish the glass without you having to scrub as opposed to using a long-handled duster or similar. The solution is equal parts vinegar and water. Using a mix of vinegar and water is amazing. It can also be applied with a kitchen roll. Rubbing it over the glass and then buffing it off with a paper towel gave a truly super finish.
Ashes and newspaper can work wonders for getting stove glass clean:
First, make sure there is no fire lit on the stove. Use a dishcloth or old newspaper to scoop up any loose ash. Use a soft-bristled brush to remove any remaining ash stuck on the glass. Start scrubbing with a damp cloth soaked in warm soapy water that is meant for handwashing. Continue rubbing until there is no more soot on the inside glass. Then you can use a soft dry cloth to wipe away the remaining water and soap, which will also remove any film that has been left behind from the soapy water. Make sure your wood-burning stove is completely cold before you begin this process.
Try cleaning with a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water:
If the stove glass is not the most visually pleasing of surfaces, this method will bring a bit of sparkle to it.
- Take bicarbonate of soda and water in equal proportions, to create a thick paste.
- Using a clean cloth, apply the paste to the surface of the glass.
- Apply a little pressure while rubbing the paste onto the glass surface.
- After a few minutes, wipe off the paste and rinse in clean water.
- You can wipe off the stovetop with a cloth that has been dipped in kitchen detergent and then rinse it off with plain water.
Stove glass cleaning spray:
Over time, glass stoves will require a bit of extra effort to keep them looking good. A nice quick cleaning should be all you need to do each time you use the stove. A stove glass cleaning spray can be helpful if you find that your stove glass gets particularly dirty. If used regularly, these are particularly good for getting rid of pesky stains and reducing the amount of work you need to do during regular cleaning routines.
Consider Replacement:
Sometimes the glass gets too dirty and it becomes impossible to clean it properly. In such a situation you can consider changing the old glass panel with a new glass replacement. Although it can cost a few bucks, it will restore the new look of your burner for upcoming years.
